Readings and resources
EDRMS is an Information Management technology. It requires significant financial and human resources to implement, however done well can reap great business benefits for an organisation.
In considering EDRMS it is essential to recognise that a document and a record are quite different things. A document merely provides information in written, printed, or electronic form whereas a record relates to an activity or transaction that has happened in the past; it is a record of history. A record typically will consist of one or more documents, relating to a single business transaction or event.
In our practice we recently came across a very practical and good guide to EDRMS implementation published by the National Archives of Australia.
It is available here and we recommend it for anyone considering an EDRMS solution - it has an excellent Lessons Learnt volume.
